Introduction to Skin Boosters

With the passage of time, skin can become dry, and fine lines and wrinkles may appear. Skin boosters are a type of aesthetic treatment used to increase deep skin hydration levels, improve skin elasticity, and reduce fine lines. We recommend that the decision to use skin boosters be made in consultation with a registered doctor.

Why Use Skin Boosters?

Why Use Skin Boosters?

Changes in appearance occur in our bodies as we age. Our skin loses elasticity, its structure deteriorates, and fine lines and wrinkles appear. As our natural hydration levels drop and our skin ages, it can change how we feel about our appearance. Skin boosters have a sugar molecule that attracts moisture and keeps the skin moist.

When you undergo a skin booster procedure with injectables, this molecule is inserted into deeper layers of the skin. Skin boosters work to draw in water and provide the skin with long-term hydration.

Effects can include improved more hydrated skin, better skin elasticity, a reduction in fine lines, and improvement in skin quality. If you are considering injectable treatments, it is important to discuss the choice with a registered doctor.

TREATMENT AREAS

TREATMENT AREAS

Skin boosters can be used to increase hydration in areas that have lost elasticity or where fine lines and wrinkles have started to appear. They are also used to improve skin imperfections, such as those caused by atrophic (depressed) acne scars. If you want to refresh the skin on your face, neck, décolletage, and hands, skin boosters are ideal.

The Treatment

A program that uses skin boosters may include several treatment sessions at regular intervals. After the initial treatment, the effects may be seen for up to 12 months. The results from treatment can vary depending on the area, the product selected, and the individual's characteristics.

Skin boosters can cause side effects. Your doctor should inform you of the risks and any side effects you may experience before the treatment begins. You should also ask to see the patient information leaflet and aftercare brochure provided to practitioners. The information on this website does not replace the professional advice of the treating doctor.

The Science Behind Skin Boosters

The Science Behind Skin Boosters

Our bodies naturally contain substances that keep our skin tissue soft, hydrated, and flexible. One of these is a sugar molecule (a type of ‘glycosaminoglycan’) which has a strong ability to bind water. Levels of this molecule in the skin tend to decrease as we age or when we are exposed to harsh environments. One result is a loss of elasticity and hydration.

Skin boosters contain this glycosaminoglycan. When placed in the deeper layers of the skin, the sugar molecules form small 'reservoirs’ of moisture that keep skin hydrated and flexible. The effects can last 6 - 12 months!

Before & After

Dermal fillers are a type of aesthetic treatment used to achieve a variety of outcomes in patient faces. They may be used to reduce facial lines and wrinkles; to add volume to the cheeks, chin, and lips; and to enhance and maintain facial shapes and contours. You can view before and after images of patients who have had such treatments in the below gallery.

Other Treatment Options

Thanks to aesthetic science, we have a range of potential treatments available to help people address concerns such as skin ageing and facial imbalances, and to create unique looks. A wide selection of dermal fillers by Galderma Aesthetics allows aesthetic practitioners to refine facial features and to fill lines and wrinkles. Meanwhile, anti-wrinkle injections, skin boosters, and collagen stimulators may can help address the signs of skin and facial ageing.

Before you decide to use any aesthetic treatment, it is important to consult with a registered doctor.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Depending on the product and the area being treated, a treatment may take between 15 and 45 minutes. A skin boosters treatment program might involve two to three treatment sessions, two to four weeks apart. After the initial treatments, doctors may recommend a maintenance treatment every six months to ensure lasting results.

Some people may experience mild discomfort. Some skin boosters contain a local anaesthetic to make treatment more comfortable. You and your doctor may decide whether additional pain relief is needed.

You will receive post-treatment guidelines from your doctor after your treatment. It is normal to experience some discomfort, such as bruising, tenderness, redness, itching, pain, or swelling at the treatment site. These side effects usually disappear within a week after the injection. See “What are the possible side effects” below. Make sure that you discuss potential treatment risks with your doctor.

Serious side effects are rare. The most common post-treatment reaction is slight skin redness, swelling, itching, bruising, or slight pain and tenderness at the treatment site. These reactions usually disappear shortly after each injection, within a few days. If symptoms become troublesome or persistent, or you are concerned about any side effect, contact your doctor.

When it comes to skin booster treatments, results are progressive: this means that changes in skin condition are subtle. Achieving the full effect usually requires a treatment program of two to three treatment sessions, two to four weeks apart. Refer to the “How long does a treatment with skin boosters take?” section, above.

Following the initial treatment regimen, skin boosters will provide hydration and continue to last for up to 6-12 months. Results may vary depending on the treatment area, the product selected and the characteristics of the individual.
