Why Use Lifting-Style Dermal Fillers?
Facial bones give our faces shape and structure. The rate of bone loss we experience increases as we age, leading to a loss of volume, facial definition, and contours, especially along the jawline. Flat cheeks, "jowling", and saggy skin can appear because of age-associated volume loss in the mid-face.
Lifting-style dermal fillers may vary in texture and firmness. These variations depend on different properties of the injectable dermal filler treatment and will influence which part of the face is treated.
Treatment Areas
With lifting-style dermal fillers, you can enhance and maintain facial shape, angles, and contours. People typically use them in areas such as the cheeks, chin, and jawline.
The Treatment
Depending on the area being treated, administering dermal filler injections can take up to 45 minutes. A touch-up treatment about two weeks after the initial treatment may be recommended to improve results. Some dermal fillers can contain a local anesthetic. It can help reduce the level of discomfort you may experience during the treatment.
A treatment with dermal fillers can last between six months and two years, depending on the number of retreatments. The results may vary based on the treatment area, the product, and the characteristics of the individual receiving it.
Patients sometimes experience post-treatment side effects immediately after their dermal filler treatment. These can include bruising, redness, swelling, pain, or tenderness at the treatment site. Within a week after the injection, the side effects usually disappear.
The Science Behind Lifting-Style Dermal Fillers
Our bodies naturally contain substances that keep our skin tissue soft, hydrated, and flexible. One of these is a sugar molecule (a type of ‘glycosaminoglycan’ called hyaluronic acid) that has a high ability to bind water. Levels of this molecule in the skin often decrease as we age, leading to dryer, thinner skin.
Some dermal fillers contain this glycosaminoglycan. When placed in the deeper layers of the skin, these sugar molecules keep body tissues hydrated and provide support to maintain structure and projection. With the correct product, you can have hydrated skin, healthy skin tone, and an aesthetic appearance to suit your facial structure.
