Introduction to Skin Boosters
With the passage of time, skin can become dry, and fine lines and wrinkles may appear. Skin boosters are a type of aesthetic treatment used to increase deep skin hydration levels, improve skin elasticity, and reduce fine lines. We recommend that the decision to use skin boosters be made in consultation with a registered doctor.
Why Use Skin Boosters?
Changes in appearance occur in our bodies as we age. Our skin loses elasticity, its structure deteriorates, and fine lines and wrinkles appear. As our natural hydration levels drop and our skin ages, it can change how we feel about our appearance. Skin boosters have a sugar molecule that attracts moisture and keeps the skin moist.
When you undergo a skin booster procedure with injectables, this molecule is inserted into deeper layers of the skin. Skin boosters work to draw in water and provide the skin with long-term hydration.
Effects can include improved more hydrated skin, better skin elasticity, a reduction in fine lines, and improvement in skin quality. If you are considering injectable treatments, it is important to discuss the choice with a registered doctor.
TREATMENT AREAS
Skin boosters can be used to increase hydration in areas that have lost elasticity or where fine lines and wrinkles have started to appear. They are also used to improve skin imperfections, such as those caused by atrophic (depressed) acne scars. If you want to refresh the skin on your face, neck, décolletage, and hands, skin boosters are ideal.

The Treatment
A program that uses skin boosters may include several treatment sessions at regular intervals. After the initial treatment, the effects may be seen for up to 12 months. The results from treatment can vary depending on the area, the product selected, and the individual's characteristics.
Skin boosters can cause side effects. Your doctor should inform you of the risks and any side effects you may experience before the treatment begins. You should also ask to see the patient information leaflet and aftercare brochure provided to practitioners. The Science Behind Skin Boosters
Our bodies naturally contain substances that keep our skin tissue soft, hydrated, and flexible. One of these is a sugar molecule (a type of ‘glycosaminoglycan’) which has a strong ability to bind water. Levels of this molecule in the skin tend to decrease as we age or when we are exposed to harsh environments. One result is a loss of elasticity and hydration.
Skin boosters contain this glycosaminoglycan. When placed in the deeper layers of the skin, the sugar molecules form small 'reservoirs’ of moisture that keep skin hydrated and flexible. The effects can last 6 - 12 months!
Before & After
Dermal fillers are a type of aesthetic treatment used to achieve a variety of outcomes in patient faces. They may be used to reduce facial lines and wrinkles; to add volume to the cheeks, chin, and lips; and to enhance and maintain facial shapes and contours. You can view before and after images of patients who have had such treatments in the below gallery.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need maintenance treatments?
Some people may require maintenance treatments to maintain skin hydration. Your doctor may recommend them after the initial 2-3 treatments.
What should I apply or avoid after the treatment?
● Don't apply make-up to the skin immediately after treatment.
● After approximately 24 hours, a light cover up can be used to conceal redness.
● A yellow-toned concealer could be used to hide signs of a bruise.
● A concealer with a green/yellow tone is a good option to cover up redness.
Are there any precautions my doctor should advise me about?
To make sure that you get satisfactory results and to reduce the risk of future problems, you should have a discussion with your doctor about possible risks, complications, and precautions:
- Let your doctor know if you are taking immunosuppressive medications.
- If you are taking aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or any other medication that affects bleeding, you should also let your doctor know before the treatment.
- If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, it is important to mention this to the doctor.
- If you are planning or have recently had other cosmetic procedures, this may impact your ability to receive a further treatment, so it is important to tell your doctor beforehand.
- If you have any questions about precautions related to the treatment, you can discuss these with the doctor before proceeding.
It's important to tell your doctor everything you know about your medical history, including all the drugs you're taking, any allergies you have, and any medical conditions you've had. Your doctor will discuss potential side effects of the skin booster injection with you. Your doctor will want to know if you have had previous aesthetic treatments, both surgical and non-surgical.
What does a skin booster treatment involve?
Skin boosters are administered by injection into the mid to deep dermis (the underlying layer) of the skin. During the procedure, some people can experience a level of discomfort. Your practitioner may administer a topical anaesthetic prior to the treatment and/or use a product containing an anaesthetic that helps make the treatment more comfortable. A program using skin boosters may involve several treatment sessions, each lasting 15-45 mins, at regular intervals to gain the optimal effect. The effects of treatment may still be visible six to twelve months after the initial treatment.
