Introduction to Dermal Fillers
Each individual has their own concept of beauty and their own unique aesthetic goals. Smooth and healthy-looking skin boosts our confidence. Dermal fillers are a type of aesthetic treatment we can use to achieve a wide range of different effects such as these across the face on all kinds of skin types.
They are commonly used to address the signs of skin ageing in three categories: fill (reduce facial lines and wrinkles); volumise (add volume to the cheeks, chin, and lips); and lift (enhance and maintain facial shapes and contours). Are you considering undergoing dermal filler treatments? You can find out more by speaking to a doctor regarding available treatments.
Dermal fillers can improve skin texture, skin hydration, and other signs of ageing, leaving you with radiant skin that appears more youthful. By penetrating deep into epidermal layers, they can act on collagen in skin cells and infuse them with moisture, for younger-looking skin.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the treatment painful?
Some people may experience discomfort or pain. The local anesthetic in some of the fillers provides you with a more comfortable treatment experience. You can discuss with your doctor whether you will need additional pain relief.
Can anyone get a treatment with dermal fillers?
Your doctor can advise you regarding whether a dermal filler treatment will benefit you. It's important to tell your doctor everything, including your medicines, allergies, and any other medical conditions you've had in the past. Your practitioner will discuss potential side effects from the injection of the filler and how serious they may be. You should tell your doctor if you've had previous aesthetic treatments, including surgical and non-surgical ones.
Who should not get a dermal filler treatment?
Patients with an allergy to the ingredients (including anaesthetic) of the filler should not receive treatment, as well as patients with bleeding disorders, or patients who have active skin disease or inflammation near the area to be treated. You can discuss contraindications, precautions, and warnings with your doctor before dermal filler treatments.
Can I get a dermal filler treatment if I am pregnant?
If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, it's best to not use any dermal filler products, because they haven't been adequately tested.
What happens after the treatment?
After the treatment, you should be given advice on post-treatment care. It is normal to experience some post-treatment pain, redness, swelling, pain, itching, and redness at the treatment site. See: What are the possible side effects?
Discuss potential treatment risks with your doctor. Sometimes there is a need for a touch-up treatment to achieve optimal results.
How long do the effects of the treatment last?
The effects of dermal fillers gradually diminish with time, because they are non-permanent injectable products. Treatments can last up to 18 months, but can be different depending on the treatment area, the product used and the characteristics of the individual. Additional treatments, or top-up treatments, can be undertaken to maintain the aesthetic result (see below).
